A BRIEF HISTORY
Oceanwide Science Institute
(OSI) was founded in April 1998 on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Its founders feel they have special contributions to make to
the investigation of the oceans and to the effort of educating
the public and preserving Hawaii's marine resources for future
generations. Our organization is small but highly motivated
to make significant contributions. We are academics and professionals
who seek to further our community's understanding of the marine
ecosystem. For some of us this is a full-time undertaking, for
others it complements our professional careers. Our support
comes primarily through grants from private foundations, contracts
with State and Federal agencies and contributions from private
donors. We are always open to new ideas and welcome the community's
input on how we can be more effective in meeting our goals.
There are three areas of focus
at OSI: research, education, and conservation. We do not see
any of these three areas as isolated but widely overlapping.
Nonetheless, we have developed initiatives and programs for
each of these three areas of focus. Please visit the links above
to learn more about how we are meeting our objectives in each
area. If you feel inclined to contribute to our efforts, we
would greatly welcome your support!
