Lisa joined the OSI team in December 2012. She has more than 15 years of experience in passive acoustic monitoring in marine ecosystems. Her doctoral dissertation at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at University of California, San Diego investigated habitat use of critically endangered North Pacific right whales (Eubalaena japonica) in the Bering Sea using long-term moored acoustic recorders. Lisa has also worked on acoustic research projects in the Arctic, southern California, Virginia, Hawaii and other Pacific islands, and has spent months at sea on research vessels. She is passionate about education and outreach as well, and has developed and coordinated field trips and after-school science programs, public outreach events, and university courses. Since 2012, Lisa has taught Marine Mammal Biology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and is currently teaching Marine Biology at the University of Oregon along with conducting OSI research.
