Anke started working with marine mammals during a research project on the Azores in 2004. She has as Master’s degree in Biology/Ecology from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany and studied predation and anthropogenic impacts on dusky dolphins in New Zealand for her thesis. Anke also helped with research projects in Hong Kong, Mauritius and Australia and has worked as a tourist guide and naturalist for whale watching trips on the Azores and eco-tourism cruises in the Dominican Republic. Following an internship with OSI in Fall 2014, Anke started her Ph.D. in Marine Biology at UH Manoa in 2015 and will continue to work with OSI as a Graduate Research Assistant to process and analyze acoustic EAR data and participate in vessel-based surveys. She is especially interested in acoustic behaviors of whales and dolphins and anthropogenic impacts.
