At the start of a new century, Oceanwide
Science Institute looks forward to participating in the stewardship
of the marine environment. To this end, Oceanwide Science Institute
will continue in its PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE by promoting scientific
investigation in all aspects of marine biology, ecology and oceanography.
The Board of Directors and Staff of Oceanwide Science Institute
believe that rigorous and UNBIASED scientific research is the
foundation upon which resource management should be based. To
this end, Oceanwide Science Institute is committed to serve as
both an active member of Hawaii's marine research community and
as a link between this community and those requiring state of
the art knowledge to formulate resource management and policy
decisions.
Oceanwide Science Institute also seeks
to foster a new generation of informed and concerned citizens.
We believe that such citizens will work to realize a sustainable
approach to resource use. Therefore, Oceanwide Science Institute
will widen and strengthen its educational programs. These programs
will reach out to local COMMUNITIES and businesses involved in
the use of Hawaii's marine resources. By maintaining exceptional
EDUCATIONAL standards, Oceanwide Science Institute will ensure
that the people it reaches will be better informed and more willing
to take responsibility for the future of the marine environment.
